From humble beginnings in Five Dock NSW in 1987, ITI has grown to become one of
Australia's largest independent timber groups.
The growth of the company has largely been due to the innovative approach taken
to every thing it does, from the premier brand Design Pine to products such as
mouldings and a huge range of structural timbers. ITI has forged an enviable
reputation for service excellence which has been recognized by the
industry with 3 Timber and Building Materials Association supplier of the year
awards, 2000, 2002, 2003.
ITI is made up of seven separate companies with 8 distribution sites, 4 in NSW,
with 2 of these in Sydney, one in Newcastle and one in Holbrook. ITI has two
distributions sites in Qld, Brisbane and Townsville and one each in
Melbourne and Adelaide. ITI has made significant investments in distribution
and support infrastructure in order to ensure that it can provide its customers
with a secure long-term commitment for the future.
Founded by Paul Shadbolt, Managing Director, ITI NSW began its business by
selling units of timber ex-wharf. In 1989 the group purchased a major share
holding in Sydney Wholesale Timber. By 1993 the operation moved to a
two-acre site in St Marys and its staff had grown to six.
In 1996 a branch in Queensland was established and NSW continued to grow its
operation, acquiring John Cook and Son in 1997. In 1999 the timber group
purchased the assets of Beecham Wright and with this made its first move south
setting up branches in Victoria and South Australia. In 2002 ITI Qld
expanded by opening a branch in Townsville.
In 2002 the timber group acquired its first sawmill with the acquisition of a
200,000 ton log in sawmill situated in the town of Holbrook, 30 minutes north
of Albury. This sawmill was sold to Hyne in April 2005 and a supply contract
was secured with the deal for an 18 year period.
Also in 2005 ITI opened two new branches in NSW, one in Newcastle and one in
Holbrook, these branches will ensure that ITI is in a position to continue to
provide a service standard which is second to none. The timber group now
carries in excess of $20million of stock at any given time supporting a just in
time delivery service standard and employs in excess of 60 staff.
Over the past 18 years the Timber group has established strong relationships
with its customers and has an excellent understanding of the Australian market
with a customer base in excess of 1000.
